Apology letter to a friend

We’ve all done it haven’t we? Fallen out with a good friend over something that later appears to be really trivial. How do we go on from here?

We want to remain friends but as time goes by it becomes more and more difficult to know where to start building bridges.

That’s where a good old fashioned letter of apology comes into its own. The time taken to compose, write and send a letter is bound to be appreciated by your friend and it would be someone of a very hard hearted nature who would refuse the apology contained inside.

Dear [name],

It’s been a while since we’ve been in touch and I can’t help feeling that it is such a shame that we fell out and stopped speaking to each other.

For my part I couldn’t be more sorry about [describe the nature of the dispute]. Although I know we’re both unlikely to change our minds about the issue, I do think we can resolve the problem and move on with our friendship which, after all this time, means a huge amount to me. I’d hate for this to destroy our relationship.

I really miss you and there’s a big hole in my life that only you can fill. Please would you let me treat you to [lunch /dinner] next week and we can catch up on everything that’s been happening recently. I really hope you will.

I’ll ring you nearer the time.

Friends again,
